Luck ahd chance- Sebastian and Charles meeting is all down to chance- relates to when Leonard and Helen met in Howards End- chance encounters seem to be a driving point for narratives 

Relationships- Charles and Sebastian- friendship- there is a much more messed up version of love in Howards End- Helen becomes pregant by Leonard- sleeps with him out of pity- Margraet and Mr Wilcox- a lot of tension in their relationship when he shuns Helen and it is discovered that he has had an afair in the past with Leanords sister
