Brecht

 

Brecht was a German playwright before becoming a playwright  he served in the medical sector in the army and, being appals by its effects he then went on to pursue a career in the theatre, however when the Nazis came into the occupation he lost his citizenship and Brecht fled. He moved to the USA and became a resident but returned to Europe in 1947. Before his death he had managed to establish the Berliner Ensemble and was regarded as one of the greatest theatre practitioners.

As an artist Brecht was influenced by a wide range of writers and practitioners including aspect from Chinese theatre and the philosopher Karl Marx. Even throughout the turbulent times in which he lived he still had the courage to plod on and continue to share his views I n the theatrical world.  His works included Mother of courage and her children. Which is considered by some to be the finest anti-war play.  Along with this he also did other anti-war plays such ad Fear and Misery of the Third Reich. These plays where effective particularly Mother courage as they had endings which could be interpreted differently exemplar gratis Mother courage could be seen as callous or uneducable or even just as having very capitalist outlook on life.

Brecht had a big impact on the development of the theatre, he used ideas that contrasted the theatre that was being represented it for example. The theatre at the time was highly naturalistic and therefore it often reflected what
