Brain scanning techniques have helped psychologists be able to research what goes on in the brain and draw conclusions about how/why this affects our behaviour. There are two types of brain scanning techniques, structural (MRI) and functional (PET).
MRI Scans (magnetic resonance imaging)
- This displays a picture of the brain of a person without having to cut open the skull
- It looks at areas of damage or where tumours are present
- It works by placing patients in a large scanner which contains a strong magnet.
