·         Bowlby believed that evolution is the key to survival

·         Evolution is inheriting characteristics from our parents which enable us to survive

·         Children have an innate tendency to attach to enable survival

·         Bowlby suggested that a child should be close to his/her caregiver in other to enable survival

·         Children use proximity promoting behaviours to encourage attachment

·         This proximity promoting behaviours is  critical in the sensitive period usually the first few years of
