Bowlby maternal deprivation hypothesis

·         Bowlby suggested that a child should have a primary attachment throughout the first few years of their lives

·         This attachment according to him should not be broken

·         If the attachment is broken it will cause problems in later development for the child

·         He also explained that children who suffered deprivation also develop an internal working model and find themselves as unworthy of love

·         He also explained that attachment that is broken can be made up for later

·         Children who suffered deprivation also become delinquents according to
