Body and Soul

The idea that the body and soul are two separate substances is a commonly-held belief

There are many arguments given as to why this is the case, such as the notion of a soul 'traveling' to an afterlife of some kind, the fact that the soul is what gives someone their identity, or even the possible existance of ghosts.

Many religions place a large amount of importance on the soul.

Hindus, eg, feel that it's the soul (Atman) which travels with a person through the cycle of re-incarnation (Samsara).
