Biotechnology means using live organisms to produce useful products such as medicine and food or providing people with products such as waste managament and water purification.

Microorganisms are grown in fermenters in a large scale. 

What is a fermenter?

A fermenter is a big container filled with liquid 'culture medium' in which microorganisms can grow and reproduce. 
A fermenter needs to be in right conditions for the microorganisms to grow and produce teir useful products in a large scale.
