The fluid mosaic model.
- This was used to describe the arrangment of molecules in the membrane.
- In the model, phospholipid molecules form a continuous double layer.
- Cholesterol, protein molecules, are scattered through the bilayer.
- Intrinsic membrane proteins - Occupy entire width of membrane, act as protein channels.
- Extrinsic membrane proteins - are embedded in the outer phospholipid bilayer - act as chemical receptors.
The Phospholipids.
