Biology 11.1 Replication of DNA

Cells that make up organisms derived from existing cells by process of division.

Cell division occurs in two main stages:

• Nuclear division = process of nucleus dividing - either by meiosis or mitosis.
• Cell division = process of whole cell dividing.

Before a nucleus divides, DNA must be replicated - ensures daughter cells have genetic info to produce enzymes and other proteins.

Process of DNA replication = very precise, cells must be identical to original.
