What is the structure of DNA and RNA ?
DNA & RNA are known as nucleic acids
DNA is a made of nucleotides (single unit/monomers)
made of -
nitorgen base
phosphate
five carbon sugar
four bases -
Adenine
-purine -double (two rings )
guanine
cytosine
-pyrimidine -single (one ring)
thymines
The sugar and the phosphate form the backbone
The bases point inwards like rings on a ladder, the bases are held together by hydrogen bonds.
The strands run in opposite directions and so are called antiparallel strands.
Guanine and Cytosine - 3 bonds -more stable
Thymine and adenine - 2 bonds -less stable
Phosphodiester bonds between nucleotides
describe the structure of DNA.
DNA is known as a Nucleic acid, it is a polynucleotide. Each nucleotide is made…
