Proteins, Catylists and Enzymes
- Enzymes have a specifc shape to only fit with its substrate (part it needs to connect with)
- - The substrate binds to the active site
Once the substrate is bound the the active site of the enzyme it can be:
- - broken down
- - built up into a larger molocule
- - changed into another substance
- Enzymes are made of protein
- The enzyme does not react with the substrate. It speeds up the reaction (- substrate being the reactant
The conditions the effect enymes are:
- - temperature (really cold/really hot) e.g. will denature above 40 degrees and work slower at lower temperatures (under 20 degrees)
