fertilisers
plants need elements like nitrogen, pottasium, and phosphorous so they can make important compounds like proteins in order to grow
farmers sue fertilisers to replace these mising elements or provide more of them. this helps to increase crop yields by boosting plants growth
however excess fertliser can run off fields and into rivers lakes and ponds which can result in the death of organisms living in the water
