Mitosis and the cell cycle
Cells go through a series of changes involving growth and division, called the cell cycle. One of the stages is mitosis, when the cell divides into 2 identical cells. Before a cell can divide, it needs to grow and increase the number of sub-cellular structures, such as ribisomes and mitochondria. During mitosis:
1) One set of chromosomes is pulled to each end of the cell.
2) The nucleus divides.
3) The cyptoplasm and cell membranes divide to form two identical cells.
