Biological Molecules - Proteins.

HideShow resource information

Proteins are made of long chains of amino acids.

A dipeptide is made of 2 amino acids, whereas a polypeptide is made of 3 or more amino acids. Proteins are made of 1 or more polypeptides.

Amino Acids:

Have a Carboxyl group (end of a Carboxylic acid) and an Amino group ('N' 'H' 2) attached to a Carbon atom. There are 20 different amino acids as there are 20 different 'R' groups that are attached to the Carbon atom.

Essential amino acids are amino acids that we need as we cannot make and have to have in our diet.

Non-essential amino acids are amino acids that we still need be we can make and therefore they are not required in our diet.

Peptides:

2 ore more different amino acids react…
