definitions- biological rhythmsdistinct patterns changes in body activity that conform to cyclical time periods. biological rhythms are influenced by internal body clocks, endogenous pacemakers, as well as external changes in the environment, exogneous zeitgebers. circadian rhythms: a type of biological rhythms subject to a 24-hour cycle, which regulates a number of body processes such as the sleep/wake cycle  and changes in core body temperature

Biological rhythms-

governed by endogenous pacemakers and exogneous zeitgebers, can have infradian, circadian and ultradian. circadian occurs in 24-hour cycles such as the sleep/wake cycle and body temperature

The sleep/wake cycle-

we feel drowsy at nighttime but alert during the day demonstrates the effect of exogenous zeitgebers but in the absence of external stimuli does the free-running cycle (endogenous pacemakers) continue.                                                                                                                       basic rhythm governed by the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) which lies just above the optic chiasm and recieves info about light directly from this structure, EZ reset the SCN

Siffre's cave study-

spent 2 months in cave in southern alps in 1962 and 6 months in a texan cave in the 1970s at 60 y/o completely deprived of daylight, each time his sleep/wake…
