Biological Explanations:

Cesare Lambroso's Idea of What a Criminal Looks Like: 

  • Large Jaws
  • Large Ears
  • Dark Skin
  • Flat Nostrils
  • Thick Hair
  • Inability to Blush

Psychological Explanations:

Hans Lysenck (a psychologist) believes that there are two types of personalities:

  • Introvert (Shy and Quiet)
  • Extrovert (Confident and Outgoing)

Personality types can be linked to whether a person is more or less likely to commit the crime. Extroverts are more likely to commit the crime as they are less likely to conform to rules of social control and seek attention.


  • Stress caused by menstruating can make women act irrationally so they can not be held responsible for their actions. 
  • It is believed that 80& of female crime occurs around the period of menstruation.
