Water

properties

HSHC                                                                                                                                 The hydrogen bonds can absorb alot of energy so water has a high specific heat capacity. This means it doesnt experience rapid temperature change so it is a good habitat as the temperature is more stable than on land.

HLHE                                                                                                                                    It take alot of energy to break the hydrogen bonds so water has a high latent heat of evaporation. this means that it uses alot of energy to evaporate. So when our sweat evaporate we cool down.

Cohesive                                                                                                                                Water is very cohesive as it is polar, therefore water can flow so it is a great transprot medium and can transport substances up the xylem of a plant.

Low density as solid                                                                                                               The hydrogen bonds hold the molecules further apart in solid than in liquid as they form four hydrogen bonds to other molecules making a lattice shape. This means that ice can give insulation to the organisms in the water below as it floats.

Good solvent                                                                                                                         As it is polar, the slightly charged ends of the molcules will be attracted to the other charge in an ionic substance and will surround it and the substance will dissolve. this means important…
