Biological approach

?

Basic assumptions:

1. Everything psychological is at first biological

2. Behaviour originates from biological structures:genes , nervous system and neurochemistry

3. Mind is within the brain so all behaviour has a physical basis

1- Genetics

Genes will influence behaviour , behaviour is therefore similar to any other physical characteristic and has evolved through natural selection , genes that have been adaptive have been passed onto offspring.

Genotype = individuals genetic makeup which occurs at conception. This provides a genetic code that predisposes an individual as to how they will develop.

Phenotype= The characteristics show by a person which can either be an expression of their genotype or a result of an interaction between their genotype and an environmental factor.

because of their unique genotype twins are often used to study the genetic contributions of behaviours

Monozygotic idential twins share 100% same genes , whereas dizygotic share 50%

2- Nervous System

Our nervous system is made up of cells called neurons , our CNS is made up of the brain and spinal cord. There are billions of neurons that make up the brain and the specific structures within them. It is…
