Module 4
Disease is a condition that impairs the normal functioning of an organsim. Pathogens are organisms that cause disease. Bacteria, viruses, fungi and protoctists are types of pathogens.
communicable diseases- diseases that spread betwenn organisms;
Tuberculosis(TB): affects animals, Bacterium Bacterial meningitis: affects humans, Bacterium Ring Rot: affects potatoes and tomatoes, Bacterium HIV/AIDS: affects humans, Virus Influenza: affects animals, Virus Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV): affects plants, Virus Black sigatoka: affects banana palnts, Fungus Ringworm: affects cattle, Fungus Athlete's foot: affects humans, Fungus Potato/tomato late blight: affects potatoes and tomatoes, Protoctist Malaria: affects anmals, protoctist
Direct transmission- disease transmitted directly from one organisms to another. This can happen via doplet infection (spores), sexual intercourse or touching an ifected oragnism.
Indirect transmission- disease is transmitted via an intermediate, this inculdes air, water, food or another organsim (vector)
