Dopamine Hypothesis.
Phenothiazines inhibit dopamine activity and reduce symptoms of schizophrenia.
L-dopa releases dopamine and induces acute symptoms.
Drugs like amphetamines and LSD have an effect on dopamine. They have been known to induce symptoms in healthy individuals.
Ranrup and Munkvad found they could induce schizophrenic behaviour in rats by administering amphetamines. This was reversed with neuroleptic drugs.
