One methodology issue of this study is that they collected their data using questionnaires, a strength of this is that it they obtained a large sample of participants in a comparatively short period of time. In this study, the sample was 113 participants and this also means the findings are highly generaliseable.
A disadvantage of this however is that the participants may not tell the truth about their fears of avoidance of animals, this is a problem with the internal validity of the study. There may be a strong social desirability bias towards particular animals and people may rate themselves according to what they think they should fear (cockroaches etc) and yet may have never seen one, but rate them as fearful because they are associated with bad hygiene.
