Benefits of Relationships on Psychological Wellbeing

Bowlby suggested that if you had secure attachments in childhood then this would mean that in adulthood your relationships would be more loving and caring. Therefore a strong childhood relationship with your primary care giver was beneficial to future psychological and relationship stability.

  This was extended by Hazan and Shaver in the in the continuity hypothesis. They took Bowlbys internal working model and applied it to love and psychological wellbeing in adulthood. Here, if you had avoidant insecure attachments in childhood this would have a knock on effect to psychological wellbeing in adulthood,
