Behavioural Treatments

  • Changes maladaptive behaviour with the apropriate
  • therapy is based on classical and operant conditioning
  • Examples: flooding, aversion therapy, systematic desensitisation, token economy

Systematic desensitisation:

  • form of counter conditioning
  • individuals are tained to substitute a fear reponse with a relaxation resonse
  • relaxation is complete with anxiety and fear

This is done by forming a hierarchy of fear involving the conditioned stimulus, that are ranked from the least fearful to the most fearful. The patient works their way up starting from the least unpleasant…
