- Approach claims that abnormal behavior occurs due to a person's behavior and it being learned through experience.
- Approach uses classical conditioning to show how behavior is learnt. A stimulus causes a mental response within a person. This stimulus and response are then linked within the mind. It is thought phobias form in this way. -Study (little albert) showed that a child could develop a new fear of rats, if a loud noise was made, while the rat was in sight. The child began to associate the scary noise with the rat and developed his fear.
