Introduction to Heredity:
- Offspring inherit traits passed down from the biological parents.
- Some traits dominate other traits.
- There are two 'types' of alleles: recessive and dominate alleles. An allele is a specific version of a gene.
- (Gregor Mendel - monk- father of classical genetics. Cross bred plants to see what traits are handed down. Before the understanding of DNA. 1850's.)
- The locus on a chromosome = The location of a gene on a chromosome.
- The locus/ location of a gene on a chromosome i.e. from the mother will match the locus of the gene on the father's chromosome.
