ATMs (Automatic Teller Machines, i.e. Cash Machines)

Machine reads customer’s sort code and account number from the magnetic stripe or chip on the card. Card is checked to ensure it has not been stolen. Customer is then asked for their PIN. The ATM then requests the customer’s bank records from the main database using a communications link to make sure the PIN matches. If it matches, then the customer is given access to their account and they can: withdraw cash (with/without receipt), request a mini-statement, balance, new cheque book, change PIN or deposit cheques and/or cash (on some special ATMs only).

One of the biggest threats talking about automatic teller machines is security. And it is correct that this issue is one of the most important in the course. I am glad that there are such companies like Atmeye which develop a-class ATM monitoring and management system for banks https://atmeye.com/atm-monitoring/.
