THE FACTS

70% of the country is less than 1 metre above sea level - 150 million people.

LONG TERM CAUSES

  • Global Warming - Severe weather. E.g. violent monsoons and sea level rise.
  • Urbanisation
  • Poorly maintained river and lake embankments, this means the maximum river discharge is low.

SHORT TERM CAUSES

  • Deforestation
