Bangladesh Floods: Effects

The Bangladeshi floods of 1998 were described as the `worst floods this century`.

These floods covered 66.6% of the land and affected the majority of the population. The county`s economy was greatly affected as over 400 clothing factories were forced to close. The main port of Chittagong was closed for weeks and production levels in important export industries including shrimp and garments were down by 20%.
