Background Radiation

Background radiation we recieve comes from:

  • Radioactivity of naturally occuring unstable isotopes - in the air, food, buildings, rocks
  • Radiation from space - cosmic rays, mostly from the sun
  • Radiation due to human activity - fallout from nuclear explosions , dumped nuclear waste (this is just a tiny proportion)

The level of background radiation changes depending on where you are.
