Concept of Organ Donation

You can donate parts of or the whole of an organ if you are alive. For example, you can donate one of your kidneys, or part of your liver.

Organs can also be donated from dead people if they have a donor card (a card saying you concent to donation).

Criteria for Donation

The donor must;

  • be relatively young
  • be as fit and healthy as possible
  • have a similar body weight to the patient
  • have a close tissue match to the patient

If the donor is living, they must;

  • be over 18
