Respiration releases energy for cells from glucose. This can be aerobic respiration, which needs oxygen, or anaerobic respiration, which does not.

Symbol for aerobic respiration is:               Word eqaution for aerobic respiration is:

C6H1206 + 6O2 > 6CO2 + 6H20               Glucose + oxygen → carbon dioxide + water

The rate of respiration can be determined by measuring:

  • Increased oxygen consumption
  • increased carbon dioxide production

RQ = carbon dioxide produce ÷ oxygen used

ATP is a substance that is used as the energy source for many processes in cells. ATP is
