The Kidneys

The Kidneys perform three important roles.

- Adjustment of water content in the blood.

- Adjustment of ion levels in the blood.

- Removal of urea. Urea is made in the liver by the breakdown of excess amino acids.

They do this by filtering stuff out of blood at high blood pressure and reabsorbing the important substances later.


A high blood pressure is built up which squeezes ions, water, urea and glucose out…
