Communicable Diseases

Pathogens are microogranisms that enter the body and cause disease. They cause communicable diseases which are ones that can easily be spread. Both animals and plants can be infected by pathogens.

1. BACTERIA- very small cells which reproduce rapidly inside the body

2. VIRUSES- reproduce rapidly inside the body and live inside of cells and replicate themselfs inside the cell which will cause it to burst releasing all the new viruses

3. PROTISTS- eukaryotes that live on or inside other organisms and can cause them damage

4. FUNGI- single-celled or made up of hyphae which grow and penetrate human skin and the surface of plants causing diseases

THEY CAN ALL SPREAD BY... 1. Water 2. Air 3.Direct Contact

THREE MAIN VIRAL DISEASES

1. Measles- a viral disease which is spread by droplets from an infected person's sneeze or cough. People with measles develop a skin rash and will show signs of fever. Most people are vaccinated against this.

2. HIV- a virus spread by sexual contact or by exhanging bodily fluids. Flu symptoms are given off and can be controlled by antiretroviral drugs which stop the virus replicating. The virus attacks the immune cells

3. Tabacco Mosaic Virus- A virus that affects many plants causing a mosaic pattern
