Cells do particular jobs. For example, a hair cell in plant roots absorb mineral salt by active transport. This means that the mineral salts are diffused into the root cells by movement of molecules by respiration. The membrane contains molecular pumps which pump the minerals from low concentration to the cell with high concentration. This allows the roots to absorb and concentrate minerals more efficiently.
