Originally discrimination law was set out in several different acts,especially the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 , the Race Relations Act 1976 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.Now all the law on discrimination is set out in the Equality Act 2010.

The Equality Act sets out certain proctected characteristics.These are



*gender reassignment

*marriage and civil partnership



*religion or belief


*sexual orientation                

People with these characteristics are protected from:

*direct discrimination

*indirect discrimination
