• Microscopes = let us see things which we can't see with our naked eye
• LIGHT MICROSCOPE - use light and lens to form an image. Let us see larger subcellular structures, like nuclei 
• ELECTRON MICROSCOPE - use electrons to form an image. Let us see smaller subcellular structures, like ribosomes and mitochondria. Higher resolution and magnification --> let us see things in more detail.
