Eukrayotic Cells

Animal and plane cells are eukaryotic cells. They have genetic material that forms chromosomes and is contained in a nucleus.

Prokaryotic Cells

Bacteria have the following characteristics:

  • single - celled
  • no nucleus - have a single loop of dna
  • have small rings of dna called plasmids
  • smaller than eukaryotic cells

Microscopes

Electron microscopes allow you to see sub-celluar structres, suchas ribosomes, that are too small to see with a light microscope

To calculate the magnification:

Specialised Cells

Cells in animlas and plants differentiate to form different types of cells. Most animal cells differentiate at an early stage of development, whereas plants differentiate throughout their lifetime.

Some cells:

  • Sperm Cell: fertalises the egg. has a tail to swim
