- Contribution to criminology- Lombroso has been hailed as the 'father of modern criminology'. He is credited for shifting the emphasis in crime research away from a moralistic discourse towards a more scientific and credible realm. His theory also brought about the beginning of offender profiling. Therefore, he made a major contribution to the science of criminology.
- Scientific racism- DeLisi drew attention to distinct racial undertones of Lombroso's work as many of the features Lombroso identified as criminal. e.g. curly hair and dark skin, are most likely to be found among people of African descent.
