Parsons instrumental and expressive roles 

Parsons beieves that the aim of the husband it to be succesful at work and provide for the family financially threfore making him the breadwinner where as the wifes expressive roles should be geared to early sociolisation of the children and meering the families emotional needs. Parsons argues that the division of labour is decided on the biological differences in which women are 'naturally' suited to the nurturing role where as men are the providers.
