Arithmetic Series

Arithmetic Series (or progression) = a series where each term is obtained by adding on a constant to the previous term.

The series goes up in equal steps.

The constant is called the common difference (d).

    e.g     1+3+5+7+9+...   is an arithmetic series.

             the common difference (d) = 2

             the formula for the nth term is 2n - 1

                                                          (2k - 1)
