What is a tragic hero? A tragic hero is typically the main character in a tragedy play. Typically has heroic traits which allow them to gain sympathy from the audience, but they also have flaws or make mistakes which lead to their downfall.

The term was defined by Aristotle- Greek philosopher.

Aristotle’s tragic hero:

In the start, they should be equal to the regular person,to allow the audience to identify with them. This also introduces pity, which is crucial in tragedy, as if the hero was perfect we would be angry with their death and not really care because they were perfect.

If the hero was imperfect or evil, then the audience would feel that he had got what he deserved.
