Aristotle and the soul:

Disagreed strongly with Plato, Aristotle was asking himself questions which were different. More interested in this physical world and things we can learn through empircal evidence

He saw that soul as a substance, meaning essence. His answer to the question of how is a baby, adult and old man the same person was that though the body is changing the substance remains the same.

Materialist attitude towards the soul, considered it not to be some invisible part of a person, but include the matter and structure of the body along with its abilities. Treated it similarly to the formal cause, soul gives a living thing its essence. it has the abilities and characteristics of its form. E.g. an axe…
