Application: theft and lying

?

APPLICATION: THEFT AND LYING

NATURAL MORAL LAW: THEFT

-Theft breaches the primary precept to live in an ordered society

-Aquinas made an exception in the case of desperate need: a starving man might steal from someone who had plenty-in this case the primary precept to presereve life takes priority.

LYING:

-Lying breaches the primary precept to live in an ordered society

-Proportionalism would agree that lying in most cases is morally wrong, but theres exceptions:

-In the case of a 'neessary' lie, the intention would be to save life - the value of saving life would be proportionately greater than the disvalue of injutsice to the person being lied to.

SITUATION ETHICS: THEFT

-Fletcher would consider the teachings of the church and biblical laws
