Answering Paper 1 Questions

The Paper 1 commetry involves two sources, one unseen poem and unseen prose. The student has the option to chose which source to analyse.

To write a commentary the best way to get as many marks as possible is to follow the criterion.

CRITERIA A - UNDERSTANDING OF THE TEXT

There is very good understanding of the text and context; perceptive comments are supported by consistently well-chosen references to the text. 

• This criteria checks that you understand the content/plot of the source given to you.
• The best way to show the examiner that you know what the source is about is by summarising the source in 2-3 lines, saying what has happened and what you think it means.
• Remember to include the type, purpose and audience of the text.
