Anschluss with Austria

Anschluss = A union between Austria and Germany

With the suceeses of 1936 and 1937, Hitler turned his attention to his homeland of Austria. The Austrian people were mainly German and supported the idea of a union with Germany. WHY? becasue ther economy was so weak and they were impressed and admired Hitlers strength!

Hitler was confident he could bring the two together to make a greater Germany. Hitler was building up an army/alliance so he would have some support if there were an future wars.

Hitler had previously attempted to take over Austria in 1934 but Mussolini stopped him. However Hitler and Mussolini were now allies.
