ANOREXIA NERVOSA

ANOREXIA: a mental health condition in which a person tries to keep their weight as low as possible.

CAUSES:

  • environmental- puberty, hormonal changes and low self-esteem
  • psychological- tendency towards depression and anxiety
  • biological- family history of anorexia

SYMPTOMS:

  • lies about what they have eaten
  • obsessively count calories
  • take appetite supplements; diet pills
  • fatigue
  • headaches
  • problems sleeping
  • miss meals- eats very little, no fatty food
  • makes themselves vomit

P.I.E.S.F

PHYSICAL:

  • dry skin
  • brittle fingers
  • frail appearance
  • dry or chapped lips
  • headaches
  • poor circulation
  • bruise easily

INTELLECTUAL:

  • fatigue and lack of nutrition would make them unable to concentrate on school/ work

EMOTIONAL:

  • feelings of failure and anxiety because of weight gain
  • depression- severe mental disorder, low self-esteem due to body dissatisfaction and poor body image.

SOCIAL:

  • isolated and socially inhibited.
  • lack of energy from lack of nutrition- can't socialise
