KEY STUDY (AO1): Lorenz (1935)
Study of 12 goslings follow the first moving object they see. (Imprinting - first 2 days - moving object)
- Critical Period.
- Innate readiness to develop strong bond.
- Long lasting effects of early imprinting (e.g. effect mate preferences - sexual imprinting - Martina)
AO3: Evaluation
- Questions Lorenz's Conclusions - Guiton et al (1966) - newly hatched chickens sexually imprinted on yellow rubber gloves. Guiton found later, as spending time with own species = able to form sexual behaviours with each other
- Not Generalisable - criticised for extrapolation - humans & animals are physiologicaly different.
