Settings

(First half: News from elsewhere, Second half: Animal Farm)

Snowball and Napoleon sent out a flight of pigeons to neighbouring farms ot tell them about the rebellion and teach the tune of "Beasts of England" mirrors trotsky's attempt to spread the message of Communismacross the world.

We are told that Mr Jones is "sitting in the taproom of the Red Lion", "complaining to anyone" about the rebellion

We hear about the two farms Pinchfield run by Mr Frederick who represents Hitler and Foxwood run by Mr Pilkington who represents Churchill. Pinchfield (Nazi Germany) is describes as "better kept" than Foxwood. Later in the novel Frederick betrays the pigs. Foxwood (Great Britain) is described as a "large, neglected, old-fashioned farm". In the novel, Frederick and Pilkington don't get on mirroring the reality of European history.

We are told "both (were) thoroughly frightened" by the events of Animal Farm and punished the animals on their farm is caught for singing Beasts of England

Jones returns with his men

Represents: the October revolution of 1917 or the infighting in Russia 1917-1922

Known as the Battles of the Cowshed but although the animals fought courageously, they didn't understand the cause whilst the reader understands clearly that the animals are fighting for the pigs priviledge and for their own continued oppression in the hands of the pigs.
