Angola
- Portuguese kept colonies of Mozambique and Angola in Africa but fighting Angolan nationalists since early 1960's
- After right wing government in Lisbon overthrown, nationalists promised independence
- Portuguese tried to establish interim Angolan government made up of nationalist representatives to help towards independence in 1975
- Coalition included MPLA (Marxist Movimento Popular de Libertacao de Angola), UNITA and FNLA (Frente Nacional de Libertacao de Angola)
- Foreign intervention began in June 1974-Chinese sent 120 military advisers to aid FNLA and USA provided $300,000 in covert funding in Jan 1975
- MPLA was receiving funds and arms from the Soviet Union and Cuba sent military instructors to support MPLA
- Three nationalist groups had collective aim of independence but broke down when Portuguese began removal
