The King
King had the powers of; law-making, money, landownership, military power and taxation.
Earls
Earls were the most important aristocrats: the most important men in the country under the king. Relationship between king and his earls was based on loyalty. Earls competed against each other to be the one the king trusted and relied on the most, so that the king would give them the greatest rewards and honour.
